About

My husband is a plastic surgeon and many of his patients are overweight.   Most of them don't believe it's possible to lose those excess pounds without starving themselves.  Quite a few have given up trying but they get frustrated with him when he explains that he won't perform elective surgery on them because of their weight.

Too many have diabetes, pre-diabetes, cardiovascular disease and chronic pain.

And being overweight puts you at greater risk of complications when undergoing surgery.

I'm not a dietician, but I've always been interested in nutrition, and for as long as I remember, I've believed in the low fat, whole grain approach.  That's what we grew up with.  Although I'm certainly not vegetarian, I've always loved vegetarian and vegan cooking.

In 2010, both of us started losing weight.  Over 50lb combined.  It wasn't particularly hard.

But it involved a complete paradigm change.

This blog tells you how and why we did it.
